Easter holiday homework, 2017
Your homework for Easter is very simple: read the poems in the anthology. As you read, think about:
* The theme of each poem
* The techniques the poets have used
* Any other poems in the anthology they could be compared
to
After Easter we will spend a few more weeks studying the poems, then we will spend some time looking at revision techniques to prepare you for the end of year exams, which will take place after half term.
Have fun!

Homework, Tuesday, March 14th, 2017
This week, I would like you to write some notes for the final two exam-style questions in the booklet. We will go over them in Thursday's lesson, then we are finished with The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time and can move on to the poetry.
The questions are:
How is conflict presented in the play?
How is the theme of learning difficulties presented in the play?

Possible exam questions for the Curious Incident ...
Hi,
This is not a homework task, although it is linked with the homework you have been doing. It is a list of all the exam-style questions I could think of, although the question that does come up in the exam could, of course, be completely different, so you will possibly need to think on your feet. It is the same as the list you have printed out and included in your homework folder.
For the first one, I have written down some of the points I would include if I was answering that question. For the rest, it's up to you!
1.
How is the character of Judy presented in the novel?
|
·
She is sympathetic to a certain extent
as she does seem to feel genuine guilt about leaving Ed and Christopher.
·
When Christopher shows up on her
doorstep she does welcome him in, even though Roger is not happy about it, so
this seems to indicate that she is willing to sacrifice her relationship with
him.
·
She is not great at handling
responsibility – she effectively gives up on being a mother to Christopher
and a husband to Ed.
·
She cheats on Ed, so she must be quite
deceitful and must therefore be comfortable with lying.
·
There are some hints that her relationship
with Roger might be on the rocks – she could be using Christopher to bring
the relationship to an end. This suggests that she might be quite manipulative.
|
2.
How does Stephens present the relationship between Christopher and his father?
3.
‘The play is more about Christopher’s parents than it is about him’ To what
extent do you agree with this statement?
4.
To what extent is the world, as Christopher sees it, not the real world?
5.
What role does Siobhan play?
6.
How is the character of Ed presented in the play?
7.
To what extent is the play a murder mystery?
8.
What, in your opinion, is the major turning point in the play?
9. To what extent is
Christopher’s condition responsible for the conflicts that arise in the play?
10.
Does Christopher go on an emotional journey in the play?
11. How is the theme
of conflict presented in the play?
12.
How is the theme of learning difficulties presented in the play?

Homework, 28th February, 2017
This week, I would like you to make around half a page of notes to answer each of the following questions:
How does Stephens present the relationship between Christopher and his father?
‘The play is more about Christopher’s parents than it is about him’ To what
extent do you agree with this statement?
You can do this in the booklet you have in your homework folder.
It is due on Thursday.

Homework, 24th January, 2017
Look at the two exam-style questions below, and, for each one, write down some notes that give an idea of how you would answer the question. By the time you read this, we will have done some work on this in class, but in case you weren't there, I have written some notes for a different question as an example.
As always, this is due on Thursday.
Example:
How
does Golding present violence in Lord of the Flies?
* In a very negative way
* Jack is very violent and is portrayed as an unsympathetic character
* Two boys end up being killed
* As law and order break down on the island, the boys become more violent
* Ralph always refuses to resort to violence
* The first hint that violence is going to become commonplace is when Piggy's glasses get broken
* It is open to interpretation whether the boys are violent because they are children, or because they are humans.
* The violence on the island can be placed in the wider context of the violence of the war that caused them to end up there.
Homework questions:
How
is the relationship between Ralph and Piggy presented in the novel?
What
role does Piggy play in the story?

Hi,
This week I would like you to read the introduction of the novel and write down the three sections into which the writer believes the plot of Lord of the Flies can be divided.
That's it!
